Best Eats In Amsterdam

Best Eats in Amsterdam

We would probably say that eating is our favorite thing about travel. Discovering new places and flavors and Amsterdam has so many amazing eateries with fresh, original food that we love!

The city is ever-changing, with so much excitement bustling around every corner (and so much to discover). Serving up health-conscious fare and top-notch coffee, we share a few of our favorite cafes with you.

Sticky Fingers

An eco-patisserie with real Instagram flair, Sticky Fingers is located in the Conscious Hotel. Touches of glowing pink mark the café, with butcher tiles, fresh flowers and a vintage popcorn machine. Order a coffee to go or sit down by the window and browse through one of the coffee table books on display. If you are hungering for something sweet, banoffee pie and a coconut macaroon make for an excellent combination. All food is homemade and organic.

The Avocado Show

One of the city’s most well-known eat spots serves up the green stuff against a backdrop of blush pink. As its name suggests, this café is all about avo, with the food classic running across the menu. Avocado pancakes, avo and eggs, breakfast bowls packed with the favorite super fruit, are just some of the green options available. Catering to flexitarians, vegetarians, vegans and pescatarians, all avocados are sustainably and responsibly sourced. The front window is also covered with avocados so you really cannot miss it.

Kanarie Club

A sunny café immersed in its signature shade of canary yellow, the Kanarie Club embodies playful yet structured Dutch design. Upstairs, the pool bar (open every evening but only serving cocktails Friday and Saturday) centers on a drained, aquamarine-tiled swimming pool, complete with yellow velvet cushions fashioned as rubber rings. The menu is equally bold with standouts including pumpkin cannelloni and a kimchi burger. Opt for gin & tonic flavored sweets for dessert.

Bar Botanique

You cannot beat breakfast at this cozy neighborhood café. Order flaky croissants and eggs any style, plus the continental breakfast for those with a big appetite. A palette of pistachio and emerald complements the overhanging botany at Bar Botanique, which blends comfort and opulence with ease. For a quick coffee, or something stronger, go down to the bar and spot the lush stork overhead guarding the top-shelf.

Little Collins

With a nod to the food and wine culture of Melbourne’s own Little Collins Street, Aussie-Dutch owners come up with a fresh take on classic and seasonally-inspired dishes. For brunch, tuck into baked sweet potato waffles or crispy fritters, washed down with a mandarin-spiked mimosa. If you have a sweet tooth, the desserts are dangerously good – choose from merengue, baklava, cherry pie or cheesecake.

Buffet van Odette

Located at the Prinsengracht, right in the centre of Amsterdam’s most notable sights, Buffet van Odette offers light-yet-nourishing breakfasts and lunches. Sunny days call for a canal-facing table outside, with a well-stocked table of tempting bites and chilled white wine. On rainy days, cozy up inside the intimate restaurant and gorge on classic entrees and seasonal dishes.

Pluk

In the midsts of one of the prettiest areas in Amsterdam, Pluk is a light and spacious café and home accessories store. Overflowing barrels of fruit welcome you as you enter – a nod to the store’s health-focused menu. Once inside, you are drawn to the edit of homewares and craftworks on your left. If dining in, nab a seat outside or inside on the second floor with a view through the two-storey shop front window. The breakfast menu is extensively colorful: acai and unicorn bowls, poke bowls, smashed avocado, banana pancakes, homemade cakes and Toco Chocolonely.

Vegabond

100% ecological, this canal-side vegan mecca in the heart of Amsterdam is an intimate, inviting retreat for weary travelers. Home to one of the best vegan doughnuts imaginable, the café also houses a small grocery, which offers vegan/organic/gluten-free/sugar-free items, for all your dietary needs.

Benji’s

The star here is the breakfast (served all day), with beloved dishes like smashed avocado toast and an unbeatable homemade granola. Balinese vibes with an urban feel make for an interior dotted with hanging baskets and natural lighting, while an outdoor terrace covered in lilac wisteria is the ultimate spot for sun basking. In bad weather, grab a pillow and snuggle up to Balto the dog – a signature fixture in the café.
